Being a good beta tester (I hope), I have more or less switched to using the new WDK for building drivers. I still test everything with 3790.1830, whose compiler and PREfast seem to report slightly different things), but I do all of my heavy dev work with the WDK.
Early on, they had a WDK feedback alias (wdkfb) that was designed for beta test use. I used it fairly often to submit feedback, which I’m sorry to say was usually just me doing things wrong.
They’ve now closed that alias, so feedback ought to either go through ddkhlp instead. But I’m pleased to report that the people on the other side of that alias are still amazingly helpful. Bryan Burgin, in particular, is amazing - he responds so fast to issues that I get the feeling he never sleeps. If anyone from MS wanders by here - Bryan needs whatever your version of an “attaboy” is.
I didn’t want to editorialize about this too much on NTDEV, but since it’s just us here on my blog
let me say that I really do think this is the kind of thing that makes the difference between noncommercial products and companies like Microsoft. It’s comforting to know that there are folks there when you’re trying to run a business.
[...] DTMSupp and WDKSupp Steve made mention of the LDKFB alias going away. I’m glad to hear he’s had a good experience with the DDKSupp alias. I can tell you that the people on the WDKSupp alias have the same level of commitment and real access to the people on the product team. In fact, we’ve implemented a twice monthly review of top support issues lead by the WDKSupp team and attended by the key people on the product team. For WDK users the transition to WDKSupp is a big step in the right direction. It means that, for the first time, people attempting to do logo testing have full-time support professionals at their disposal. Also, because the LDKFB alias is gone doesn’t mean we’re not interested in product feedback. Please feel free to use me for that. Filed Under: Windows Driver Kit [...]
